CourtneyWatson.net: My Music is Better Than Yours.

This is a great post and concept. Unfortunately, you're so wrong. I'm pretty sure that your music is crap...unless it exactly matches my tastes!

OK, so I'm kidding. I've found that I tend to add on to my musical tastes rather than removing anything. There is no such thing as a "band I used to like."

My pet musical peave (sp?) is people who are stuck on music they listened to in high school! While I think the major labels aren't what they used to be, I still listen to a variety of new bands. I could sure use a broadening of experience, but there is so little time...

As someone who's a bit older than you guys, I guarantee it matters less and less as you age. I don't think it's so terribly bad to be 35, 40-years-old and not relate to new artists. Unless your livelihood depends on it, there are much worse things than listening exclusively to the Rolling Stones. When I was younger, music was such a huge part of who am I, but now I guess I the emphasis has shifted to other things.

I love music. My collection includes something from every genre, I'm sure.

But for some reason, I can't stand country. Johnny Cash is cool, I'll even listen to a little Hank Williams, Jr and Patsy Cline, but otherwise, country music just does something to me. My whole demeanor changes and I turn into an angry, cranky monster that will stop at nothing to TURN OFF THAT TWANGY, DEPRESSING NONSENSE.

Anything else, ANYTHING else, and it's all good.

    I can't explain it.

Great post. Couldn't agree more. Like, I can't stand people who diss The Beatles. Honestly, how can you do that? Meanwhile, it helps me a lot to have a 16-year-old daughter, who let's me hear stuff I might not otherwise get exposed to. Anyone else like The All American Rejects or Jack's Mannequin (or are they old hat already)?

    Kathy,

I'm 42, but I understand your comment. There is so much going on at this point in life!

For me, I listen to music the same way other guys are into sports, or whatever. It's my main thing. (We have over 2500 albums/CDs in our collection...not counting iTunes) I can't get out to shows, much, so that is where there is a problem with finding local music.

    Kurt,

I have the same Beatles sentiment. If you listen to ANY pop/rock music, The Beatles influenced it. They may incredible, perfect, quirky albums. My kids (6 and 12) LOVE LOVE LOVE them. They actually get it!

Amen sister sledge! This reminds me of a certain someone I used to date who has only listened to a certain 2 bands his entire life and refuses to acknowledge anything else not only exists, but is worth listening to! I must agree that what you are blogging about is probably in my top 5 pet peeves...We love our musac!
